چکیده

Abstract Background Debate exists surrounding definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) over neoadjuvant and surgery (nCRS) as a primary treatment for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) owing to the heterogeneity in quality of current evidence. This study aimed compare long-term survival dCRT with nCRT ESCC from high-quality studies. Methods systematic review was performed according PRISMA guidelines eligible studies were identified through search PubMed, Scopus Cochrane CENTRAL databases up 23rd July 2021. Primary outcome overall (OS) secondary outcomes disease-free (DFS) recurrence rates. A meta-analysis conducted using random-effects modelling determine pooled adjusted multivariable hazard ratios (HRs). Results included ten including 14,092 patients, which 30% received nCRT. Three randomized controlled trials (RCT), six single-center. regimens reported surgical control two Outcomes OS DFS eight three studies, respectively. had significantly longer (HR: 0.68, CI95%: 0.54 - 0.87, p < 0.001) 0.50, 0.36 0.70, than dCRT. Conclusions nCRS followed by planned esophagectomy appears remain optimum curative regime patients loco-regional ESCC. Thus, remains an integral component management As adjuvant immunotherapy develop, ongoing prospective assessment role radiotherapy combination modern modalities should be studied

Comparative Outcomes of Induction Chemotherapy Followed By Definitive Chemoradiotherapy versus Chemoradiotherapy Alone In Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes of induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by chemoradiotherapy (CRT) versus chemoradiotherapy alone in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Patients and methods: Between 2002 and 2015, 267 ESCC patients who received definitive CRT with docetaxel and cisplatin were enrolled in this study. Through a matched case-control ...

Involved-field irradiation in definitive chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

BACKGROUND Since there is high local failure and poor survival for unresectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), the necessity of elective node irradiation is controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the failure patterns and survival in patients with locally advanced ESCC receiving involved-field irradiation (IFI). METHODS A retrospective study was preformed on th...

Clinical Prognostic Factors for Locally Advanced Esophageal Squamous Carcinoma Treated after Definitive Chemoradiotherapy

PURPOSE Locally advanced esophageal cancers are generally treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, followed by surgery in operable candidates. However, even if the patients were diagnosed as operable disease, surgery could not be performed on patients with poor condition or other comorbidity. In this case, definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) is the other option for localized esophageal cance...

Treatment results of radical surgery and definitive chemoradiotherapy for patients with submucosal esophageal squamous cell cancinomas.

BACKGROUND A radical esophagectomy with extensive lymph node dissection is the mainstay treatment for submucosal esophageal cancer, though definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT) has also been applied. However, the treatment outcomes have not yet been extensively investigated. PATIENTS AND METHODS Forty-nine patients with submucocal esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, 24 and 25 of whom had been tr...

Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for resectable esophageal carcinoma: a meta-analysis.

AIM To compare neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and surgery with surgery alone for resectable esophageal carcinoma. METHODS We used MEDLINE and EMBASE databases to identify eligible studies and manual searches were done to ensure no studies were missed. Trial validity assessment was performed and a trial quality score was assigned. RESULTS Eleven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including 1...
